Happy ThanChristmas!

Here in the US, we’re getting ready to celebrate Thanksgiving - a time when the early Settlers were so thankful for the bountiful harvest they received with the help of the Native Americans that they gathered together and shared their food and friendship with each other. Much thanks was shared for it meant that lives were saved and many hardships for the upcoming winter were averted. It meant they would survive. And they were thankful.

But that was a couple hundred years ago, and My! - How things have changed! Read the rest of this entry »

Experiential Proof

Reiki… a wonderful energy healing modality that transcends time, space, ego and injury to heal by channeling the ‘Universal Life Force’ (aka: Chi / Prana) through the Healer’s hands to the intended recipient. It is a versatile healing modality which does not involve the healer’s personal stores of energy and which can not be used for harm. In fact, the channeled energy goes to wherever and whenever it is needed most for the recipient, directed only partially by the healer. It can be a subtle energy, undetectable to those unfamiliar with sensing such things. But even the most cynical of those who consent to receiving a reiki treatment can be surprised by how intense and immediate a healing session can be.

For example, recently a dear one mentioned he had a bit of physical pain and consented to receiving reiki. He’s been intrigued by but a bit skeptical of my metaphysical pursuits for years now, and although he’s come a long, long way from where he was at understanding or sensing such things, he’s still unaccustomed to sensing the more subtle energies. But five minutes of reiki went a long way towards healing his injury (and removing tons of stress), and thirty seconds after the healing session ended he noticed just how much better he felt - to the point of letting a surprised laugh escape! Even after seeing me do reiki, listening to my explanations of such things, and even performing healings on him in the past, it took a tangible injury and an obvious healing to sway his perception. Where there was once skepticism, now there is at least a bit of belief.

And for some, “proof” in some form or another, is required for belief. But Life itself is experiential -and “proof” is the experience we have with a given situation. It is subjective, and variable. It is through our own individual interactions in the world (seen and unseen) that we grow and through which we develop our beliefs of life and living. This process, and “proof” … the Path… is different for everyone. What matters is that we’re willing to walk it.

Peace. Namaste.

Free Hugs

Humanity. The great race. We’ve conquered each other and our surroundings, explored the microscopic realm, the Earth and even ventured into space. So why is simple human contact like a hug such a thing to be frightened of? Have we become so disconnected from others of our species, so apathetic to the most basic expression of unconditional love, or so cynical and distrustful that we suspect ulterior motives with such actions? Are we so wrapped up in our own world that even envisioning a thing given, free of charge and sincere in motive, is beyond our imaginings?

What would your initial reaction be? Why?

You have now been hugged. How do you feel?

Love, Light … and Hugs!

ideological wake

Personal agendas and intentions. Most people have them; Few are willing to admit them. These impressions and influences are all around us. They are found in our daily lives from the people with whom we associate, the companies at which we work, as well as in our books and the news, art, dance, and other media. But regardless of whether a specific agenda is acknowledged, widely admitted, or kept secreted away in some corner of our consciousness, it remains in the world and provides influence to those who happen to come in contact with that person, that media or situation.

Little Choice

A common malady of our modern culture seems to be that many of us feel trapped and out of control of our lives, our situations - even our moods. We feel that we’ve become out of touch with nature, with each other, with the more spiritual aspects of existence. Very often -too often- in daily life we may hear (or say) something to the effect of “I had no choice” about a certain situation, decision or action. But how accurate is that statement, that thought, that belief - that excuse?

Equinox 9/23/07

leaf.jpg

Sept. 23, 2007: The Autumnal Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere is the astronomical ushering in of Fall. It is one of two days in the annual cycle where the sun may be observed directly over the Earth’s Equator, and day and night hours are of nearly the same duration. It is a time of balance in the Heavens between day and night, a transition from the long, light, warm days to the darker, cooler days of Autumn, and a time of thanks-giving for crops now full and ready for harvest. It is a time of recognition and reverence for the seasonal cycle and the coming colder, darker days of Winter. It is a time of reflection upon the bounty provided us, a time of thankfulness for the light and warmth which has shined upon us and a time to prepare for the next turn of the seasons. It is a homecoming of sorts - a return to the heart and hearth. A time to gather together: the gathering of the harvest, the gathering of friends and family. It is time for the blessings to be reaped and shared, a time of activity, of joy and celebration.

There are all kinds of symbolism and meanings from a wide variety of religions and beliefs attached to this day or those around it, but whatever your perspective on the equinox, it provides a good opportunity for self-reflection…

  • What things are you gathering to you? What are you manifesting? When did you sow those seeds?
  • How has balance shown upon you this past season? How will balance affect you in the coming months?
  • For which things are you thankful, and which blessings are shining upon you now? What do you have to celebrate?

May this day find you balanced and Blessed…
Namaste.

Natural Touch

How many of us live our daily lives surrounded by the constant motion and ceaseless chasing that seems to be such a necessity in this day and age? Whether running the kids to and from their activities, doing errands all across town, attending business meetings and dealing with interoffice politics, or any number of other things on a given day… how many of us take a moment to see a dinosaur in a cloud or look for the rainbow as a storm passes near? How often do we take a moment to breathe the fresh moist air or feel the sunshine on our skin? When did you last feel the grass with your bare feet, or the last time you even touched a tree or held a clump of rich soil in your hand? Chances are, it’s been a while.

Opposition?

How many of us have worked diligently on something - whether personal, business, or pleasure - only to have it be claimed at the last moment by some mysterious and seemingly malicious circumstance? A week’s worth of work disappears before your eyes when suddenly the computer reboots without saving your work… your beloved child tears through the newly cleaned house leaving a trail of mud and debris in their wake …a ceramic piece of which you’ve grown quite fond during its creation doesn’t make it out of the kiln in one piece… There are any number of times and situations where things like this happen. Are these kinds of things the fruit of karmic actions of the past? How far “past”?

(Re)Balance

As recently noted, I’ve been feeling rather ‘human’ the last few days - ungrounded, out of touch, and off-balance. My personal sense of balance seems to be returning once more, but it is awkward and uncomfortable to experience those reminders. So what happened? Well, I suspect those things mentioned in my last post, but also upon some reflection, ego. My ego sneaked out and exerted a preference for Spirit, upsetting the balance between Spirit and Humanity. Ego, and a preference for one thing over another. Hmmmm… another lesson in balance and discipline, perhaps?
