A New Assignment

At the end of participating in a yoga 1 class, I get a message from my Spirit Guides to “teach yoga”. Ummm, huh? Now I like yoga, really, I do! It’s a great way to stretch and relax and a great way to get into shape, but for me to teach it? I know next to nothing about it beyond the occasional class I take at the local gym. So why does Spirit want me to teach yoga? Oh, who knows (well, they evidently do, but they’ve not let me be privy to that tidbit of information yet). Odd. Or should I say that “Spirit works in mysterious ways”, instead? Well, whatever you want to say about it, it seems I have a new task ahead of me so I’ll be investigating yoga a bit more… and trying to figure out how it fits in to Buddhism, Meditation, Reiki, academic teaching, fine art, photography, digital art, and the host of other things I’m supposed to be pursuing as well. *Groan* – How many of these Spiritual “assignments”, in addition to the physical responsibilities of a family, can one bear? … and Spirit answers “as many as must be”. Oh boy… I’m screwed. Or am I saved? Sheeesh!

Actually, it’s probably not as far-fetched as I’m making it out to be. Many of these endeavors hit upon a similar spiritual goal or opportunity, whether they outwardly admit it or not. And somehow, somewhere, at least for me, this will spark the true task at hand, which is still largely undefined. And I get to take you with me! *grin*

So onward…

Yoga. Its origins lie in India as a series of spiritual, meditative and physical exercises aimed to increase at self-awareness and personal insight. There are several variations, or branches, including Hatha Yoga, Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Raja Yoga, and Jnana Yoga. Some of these branches have an emphasis on meditation, others on devotion/service, and still others on physical exertion as a path to spiritual purification. And although it is Hatha Yoga that my Guides are pushing me to pursue, as I read about some of the specific variations of yoga, I wonder if there’s anything I’m not currently involved with that doesn’t qualify as some kind of yoga! I guess we’ll find out… And, no doubt, many of you reading this blog entry know more about all of the branches of yoga than I do! So please share your wisdom, insights, and blogs/sites with me so that I may learn.

Namaste.
