optical delusion…
“A human being is part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. We experience ourselves, our thoughts and feelings as something separate from the rest. A kind of optical delusion of consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from the prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty… The true value of a human being is determined primarily by the measure and the sense in which they have obtained liberation from the self. … We shall require a substantially new manner of thinking if humanity is to survive.”
-Albert Einstein (1954)
Tele(their)Vision
Television is a chewing gum for the eyes. -Frank Lloyd Wright
Television. The great American past time. When television took over that spot from baseball, I’m not entirely sure, but I am reasonably certain that the passing of that torch was not a good thing. Did you know that, among other things (sources provided below): (more…)
(slightly) Mischievous
Halloween… a day overflowing with history, symbolism, spiritual meaning and festivities… but instead of writing up a serious post about any of that, or railing against the degree of consumerism sweeping many up in the holiday (to the tune of $5B!), I thought some jokes were in order instead (these are kid-safe)!
Hope you like what I’ve dug up (ha ha ha!)…
- Why was the mummy so tense?
– He was all wound up - What’s a monster’s favorite play?
– Romeo and Ghouliet - What kind of mistakes do spooks make?
– Boo boos - What’s the ratio of a pumpkin’s circumference to its diameter?
– Pumpkin Pi - What are little ghosts dressed in when it rains?
– Boo-ts and ghoul-oshes! - How do you stop a werewolf chasing you?
– Throw a stick and say fetch! - Who is the most important member of the ghost’s football team?
– The ghoulie! - What is a Mummie’s favorite type of music?
– Wrap! - What type of monster really loves dance music?
– The boogieman! - How can you tell when a vampire has been in a bakery?
– All the jelly has been sucked out of the jelly doughnuts.
Be safe, and enjoy the festivities… whether commercial, spiritual, a bit of both, or something else!
Namaste.
Eye-Wall
Our world, as most would agree, is a fast-paced, technologically and mechanically complicated one, with a wide assortment of distractions and entertainments from which to choose. We frequently fill our hours playing video games, surfing the web, or watching mindless drama on television or in the movies. And, like most things these days, these amusements come hand-in-hand with an assortment of biased media, propaganda, marketing ads and other claptrap largely intended to overwhelm us and undermine our self-image, making us vulnerable and desirous to purchase the products placed before us – the marketed “solutions” to the fabricated “issue” or “problem”.
Ricey Vocabulary
The United Nations World Food Program presents a two-fold improvement opportunity for “armchair activism”: improve your vocabulary and feed the hungry! This game presents you with a word and four options from which to choose. If you choose the correct meaning for the given word, you get a more difficult word to try next and successfully donate 10 grains of rice to those who need it. If you choose incorrectly, you get an easier word for the next round. The rice donation is paid for by the sponsors whose ads appear (subtly) on the site.
The better your vocabulary, the more grains of rice you donate… enjoy!
Brain test
As a metaphysician, I tend to be curious about pretty much everything – including intriguing little quizzes that try to convince me they can discern how my brain works by asking a few simple questions. This is my results:
You are Balanced-brained
That means you are able to draw on the strengths of both the right and left hemispheres of your brain, depending upon a given situation.
When you need to explain a complicated process to someone, or plan a detailed vacation, the left hemisphere of your brain, which is responsible for your ability to solve problems logically, might kick in. But if you were critiquing an art opening or coming up with an original way to file papers, the right side of your brain, which is responsible for noticing subtle details in things, might take over.
While many people have clearly dominant left- or right-brained tendencies, you are able to draw on skills from both hemispheres of your brain. This rare combination makes you a very creative and flexible thinker.
The down side to being balanced-brained is that you may sometimes feel paralyzed by indecision when the two hemispheres of your brain are competing to solve a problem in their own unique ways.
…. Interesting ….
Namaste.
Questions and Answers
It seems once more I’m in a period of (new) growth and transition… recently (or is that ‘currently’?) mired in the physical, it’s been difficult to find the time to meditate or to blog or, on occasion, even sleep. But being always on the move has provided an opportunity to experience the physical once more in a manner that only serves to emphasize the cyclical nature of spirit-to-physical and back to spirit again. And, I’m beginning to realize that it is part of my particular Path to tread between the two… at least for now.
‘Discover’ (video)
… and once again the Universe provides the perfect relevant material for a long overdue post!
My apologies for unexpectedly falling off the blog-o-sphere. I shall soon return with several (currently half-written) posts!
Namaste, my friends.
The aim of a life…
“The aim of art, the aim of a life can only be to increase the sum of freedom and responsibility to be found in every man and in the world. It cannot, under any circumstances, be to reduce or suppress that freedom, even temporarily. No great work has ever been based on hatred and contempt. On the contrary, there is not a single true work of art that has not in the end added to the inner freedom of each person who has known and loved it.”
-Albert Camus

108
Wow… it has been several days of non-stop running! I’ve barely had time to sleep or meditate (nevermind blog!) but the physical demands its due, so to speak, and it’s all part of the overall cycle. So, that said, and apologies for lack of posting extended, this is a special post on this blog, for it is the 108th. It seemed only fitting to honor the number that through the ages has held a certain significance. Why the number one-hundred-and-eight? Well, to mention only a few references…
